About the Ultrasuite® + Climate Demonstration Lab

The Ultrasuite® + Climate Demonstration Lab gives professionals who design, build, utilize, and oversee hospital operating rooms an opportunity to address the top concerns of their facilities through hands-on demonstration, with custom topics available by request.

  • Operating room plenums with/without LED lighting.
  • Laminar flow diffusers.
  • Welded ceilings with/without integrated unistrut.
  • Ceiling access panels with multiple ceiling designs.
  • Ultrasuite® + Climate operating room system with integrated lighting.
  • Venturi FX Air Valves and associated room pressure controls integrated into the operating room controls.
  • Complete operating control including pressure, temperature, humidity, lighting, filter loading available via a single BACnet user interface.

Demonstration Topics

Temperature Balance

A top request among surgical staff is to maintain low operating room temperatures for optimal concentration. Combined with perioperative hypothermia and its affect on patient outcomes, this presents a significant challenge. We’ll demonstrate how a balance is made possible through its design, ASHREA standards, and CFD verified performance.

Lighting

Shadows and glare within the surgical zone were top concerns expressed by surgical staff in focus groups during the development of this equipment. We’ll demonstrate how its integrated lighting addresses these concerns, and how it provides even lighting with a low luminous intensity to improve ocular comfort.

Ceiling Complexity

At a minimum, operating room ceilings contain specialized HVAC, freeze protection, medical gas, electrical, FFE, and framing. We’ll show you how this equipment can drastically reduce the HVAC footprint in the ceiling, free up space for other equipment, and allow for fully customizable layouts.

Indoor Environmental Quality

We’ll illustrate how increasing the sterile field with exceptionally clean, high change air can improve air quality to reduce the risk of surgical site infections, along with the acoustics of this equipment, and the elimination odor causing particulates ≥ .3 µm, such as surgical smoke.

Energy Efficiency

We’ll outline the main drivers of energy consumption from several operating rooms in different climate zones, show which drivers are improved by implementing a high air change strategy, and compare annual MBTUH and kWh to ASHREA 170 standards.

First & Lifecycle Costs

We’ll compare the financials of this system and an alternative, reviewing first costs with equipment configurations – along with an in-depth look at lifecycle costs including design, energy, maintenance, Nosicomial Infections, Patient Recovery Times, and FFE changes and depreciation.

Installation & Maintenance

We’ll walk you through what’s ready out of the box including factory assembled sections, gasketed joints, integrated balancing dampers, factory installed and wired lighting, and quick connect cables for quick installation – and the simple procedures required for regular maintenance.
